Julian, CA - Road Trip

Julian, CA - Road Trip

There is nothing quite as romantic as a road trip to a new town. I just visited Julian, Ca which is located on the mountains of San Diego County.

This reminded me of road trips we used to do back in the Philippines. See, we went on trips just to get the specialty food of a certain province. You can get Coconut pit from Laguna, Bulalo from Batangas, Inasal from Bacolod, and Batchoy from Ilo-Ilo (although you need a boat to get to Ilo-Ilo).

Julian specializes in apples. And, when there are apples there are apple pies. I was on the hunt for a fantastic pie.

I started my search but I needed breakfast. So I went to a cafe to have a quiche and coffee. It was probably the best quiche I ever had. Usually, the eggs are either too dry or are not seasoned well enough. This quiche layered cheese and jalapenos like a lasagna. Brilliant! You could tell it was made with love. Granny's Cafe you are a star.

After breakfast walking around the town was a treat. Julian was an old mining town. They mined gold during the gold rush. I had my eyes set for a different golden brown.

My search ended quite quickly when I discovered that apple pie bakeries were everywhere here. Awesome. It won't be hard to come back and try the other bakeries.
